Mitchie Takeuchi

CREATOR/SENIOR PRODUCER

 

Creator and Senior Producer of  “A Vow from the Ruins,” the 2017 documentary about Setsuko Nakamura Thurlow, an 85 year-old survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, a committed nuclear disarmament advocate, and Canadian citizen.  

Mitchie, a Hiroshima native herself , is a second-generation A-bomb survivor (Hibakusha).   It is Mitchie’s relationship with Setsuko that inspired the film.  They met through “Hibakusha Stories,” a UN-NGO/ Youth Arts New York educational program bringing A-bomb survivors to schools in the New York City area.  Both are alumni of Hiroshima Jogakuin Girls School where 350 students died August 6, 1945.  

 

Her ongoing relationship with Setsuko has led Mitchie to her latest project about her grandfather, Dr. Ken Takeuchi, head of the Red Cross Hospital in Hiroshima the day the bomb dropped.

 

Mitchie founded Arc Media, a corporate communication & media consulting company in New York, after working for Dentsu Advertising. Her specialty is US - Japan projects.  Production credits: Associate Producer,  “Japan Today,” weekly public affair program on USA Network; Producer of live broadcast of Tony Award winning, “The Will Rogers Follies” with Pierre Cossette Productions for Wowow, a leading Japanese pay TV.  She is a member of New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT).

 

Susan Strickler 

DIRECTOR/PRODUCER

 

Director and Producer of “A Vow from the Ruins,” had a highly successful two-decade career as a director and producer for network soap operas in both New York City and Los Angeles.  She directed over 750 episodes of daytime TV including “Guiding Light,” “Young and Restless” and  “Another World.”  She has won both a Director’s Guild of America Award and a Daytime Emmy Award.

 

As a Quaker, Susan has been committed to issues of peace and justice throughout her life. Through her involvement with Youth Arts New York’s Hibakusha Stories, Susan met Setsuko Thurlow and initiated the first conversation with her about making a documentary to preserve her life’s work and her contributions to the worldwide movement for a humanitarian approach to nuclear disarmament.

 

Susan is a member of the Director’s Guild of America and New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT).
